Radial Velocity Monitoring of the Young Star Hubble 4: Disentangling Star-spot Lifetimes from Orbital Motion*

چکیده
We studied the weak-lined T Tauri star Hubble 4, a known long-period binary, and its starspot phenomena. used optical radial velocity (RV) data taken over span of 14 years (2004-2010, 2017-2019) at McDonald Observatory 2.7m Harlan J. Smith telescope single epoch imaging from HST/WFC3 instrument. The observed apparent RV variations show contributions, respectively, binary motion as well large spot group on one stars, presumed to be primary. Fitting removing orbital signal RVs, we found lower bound lifetime previously identified surface least 5.1 years. A $\sim5$ year limit is long, but not unprecedented, duration for group. later indicate significant evolution has occurred, placing an upper 12 find that pre-main sequence evolutionary models age Taurus ($\sim2$ Myr), combined with component mass estimates literature, permit us reproduce HST relative photometry binary-induced contribution variations. long-lived 4 implications dynamo in young it adds evidence long lifetimes magnetic field topologies. There are also exoplanet searches coherent signals may spot-induced result planetary motion. (This paper includes University Texas Austin.)

A Radial Velocity Analysis of the Binary Star Tu Muscae
Several papers provide conflicting results for the radial velocities and mass ratios of the binary star TU Muscae; this paper intends to shed light on this issue. A radial velocity analysis was done by fitting Gaussian curves to the absorption lines of helium II (He II) and silicon IV (Si IV). The corresponding red and blue Doppler shifts of these absorption lines were measured and the radial v...
متن کاملNuclear Star Clusters across the Hubble Sequence
Over the last decade, HST imaging studies have revealed that the centers of most galaxies are occupied by compact, barely resolved sources. Based on their structural properties, position in the fundamental plane, and spectra, these sources clearly have a stellar origin. They are therefore called “nuclear star clusters” (NCs) or “stellar nuclei”. NCs are found in galaxies of all Hubble types, su...
متن کاملPlanetary microlensing signals from the orbital motion of the source star around the common barycentre
With several detections, the technique of gravitational microlensing has proven useful for studying planets that orbit stars at Galactic distances, and it can even be applied to detect planets in neighbouring galaxies. So far, planet detections by microlensing have been considered to result from a change in the bending of light and the resulting magnification caused by a planet around the foreg...
متن کاملHubble Deep Field guide star photometry
Since the advent of asteroseismology as a promising innovative tool for investigating internal stellar structure, numerous attempts to detect solar type oscillations in distant stars have been conducted. The three Fine Guidance Sensors of the Hubble Space Telescope can contribute to asteroseismology, but only after the data have been corrected for systematic effects, the South Atlantic Anomaly ...
متن کاملThe non-single star content of the list of radial velocity standard stars
We analyse the properties of unresolved multiple stars within the full-sky list of radial velocity standard stars, and we estimate that a low remaining fraction would have a radial velocity variation during the mission larger than the requirement. The need for supplementary observations to specifically remove these multiple stars does not appear justified. CU6 The non-single star content of the...
